Kazbegi National Park, also known as Stepantsminda National Park, is located in the northern part of Georgia within the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, encompassing an area of high mountainous terrain dominated by the majestic Mount Kazbek, which rises to 5,033 meters (16,512 feet). The park covers portions of the Greater Caucasus mountain range and features rugged peaks, deep gorges, glaciers, alpine meadows, and crystal-clear rivers. It hosts a rich variety of flora and fauna including endemic species like the East Caucasian tur, brown bears, wolves, and rare birds such as the golden eagle. Historically, the region has deep cultural significance with medieval churches such as Gergeti Trinity Church situated on a hill overlooking the principal village of Stepantsminda. Visitors are drawn to the park for its world-class hiking and mountaineering opportunities, including trekking routes to Gergeti Glacier, Mount Kazbek base camps, and several scenic trails through diverse landscapes.
